Having trouble deciding what to wear? I know the feeling! Let me help! I am more than happy to help style you (I love that stuff), go over your options and I even have a Client Closet with sizes between Extra small and Extra Large.

First and foremost…
Wear what makes you most confident and comfortable. This is the rule that should guide you above anything else. This is of utmost importance!!! Look good, feel good. I live by this in pretty much all aspects of my life, but when preparing for portraits it could not be more accurate. When you show up to your session looking your best, it will translate to feeling your best. And believe it or not, you’re hiring me to capture the feels, not just the looks, so we want you feeling fabulous as much as looking fabulous.
I want you showing up looking and feeling like your best self.
That said, I do have some suggestions that fit my style of shooting well!
Earthy neutrals

“Earthy neutrals” is what I would say compliments my style best. I generally tell people to stay away from bazaar patterns and large logos.
Here’s what I mean by “earthy neutrals.” Often colors from nature (like sunset/rise or bright orange leaves in the fall or even green leaves) will reflect off your clothes or skin in certain light. So to keep that at a minimum neutral colors, particularly tan, beige, brown, etc. are best. They also allow the subject (you!) and scenery to really really be the stars of the show.
Outfit changes
Most of my Collections allow for a change of clothes! Yes, you can and should bring more than one outfit. Variety is our friend and honestly, who could pick only one outfit?!
I suggest leaning towards casual over fancy, mostly due to the locations chosen for shoots. However, high glam can be done in the outdoors, if that’s what you want, I’m all in! Keep in mind your location and the vibes you want to represent in your photos, that will always guide you well!
Families

Coordinating is great, but being too matchy matchy is not a good look… despite what your family photos from the 90s and 2000s suggest. Don’t be afraid to put some family members in different colors or shades and throw in some prints and textures.
Feminine
I personally love photographing clothes with movement. Long dresses and hair down is great for that movement. But I also love to see folks rock jeans and a top. Bringing along a jacket or sweater for layering and variety is always a good idea.

Masculine

Simple is always your best bet. You can’t go wrong with a cotton t-shirt and pants. A flannel and/or sweater for layering and texture are highly recommended. I love a button up, but the blue dress shirt look is soooooo overdone, so I recommend staying away from that! A linen shirt or knit polo is a great alternative that isn’t as “tired” as a blue dress shirt and will elevate your photos without being too fancy.
All in all…
At the end of the day, these are just suggestions! Don’t hesitate to think out of the box and wear what makes you feel most like yourself and most beautiful! Dropping a ton of money on new outfits isn’t always necessary either. If you have the money and want to splurge then YES! Do it! But using something you already have or something thrifted can be wonderful too. Keep in mind, crawling around in the woods, getting those emotional and beautiful photos might get you a bit dirty. In a good way!
